Unlike the older versions of Microsoft Windows, namely Windows ME, Windows 98, Windows 95 which could be installed or setup from a complete dos environment. All you had to do was to start the computer with startup disk and then run the “setup.exe” from the package. However the same will not work with Windows XP, running the setup.exe from dos will fire an error that the file cannot be run in dos.
How to Install Clean Boot Windows XP?
- Given that you have an existing windows systems, insert the Windows XP CD and run the setup. From the options choose “New Installation” and overwrite the existing windows.
- Given you do not have any windows system running then start the system with startup disk. Choose CD ROM Support. Once the same is loaded the check for the CD ROM drive letter. For Eg Drive E:

C:\
C:\smartdrv.exe
Now we have to initiate the setup from dos mode.
Type <CD DRIVE LETTER>\i386\winnt\ and hit enter. For EG:
E:\i386\winnt\
The setup will start and you are on your way to setup new windows, Follow the wizard.
