This would be one of the weirdest problems a computer user comes across; having no icons or icons changing to unknown icons makes usage tricky.
If you have lost all the Icons on the desktop or they have change into something unknown then follow the steps below.
To get the Icons.
Right click on the desktop >> Desktop >> Customize Desktop >> Restore Defaults.
You may check or un-check the values you want.
To get the Icons look normal.
A corruption in file iconcache.db can also be a problem which has resulted in unknown icon. You should restart the system in “Safe Mode” this will help rebuild the iconcache.db.
You may also download tweaking softwares like “Tweak UI” this will help you make changes at ease.
